The Coworking Space was started as an immediate response to the expressed needs of Black business owners in the North East WI Region through a new (2019) research study conducted in partnership between Fit Oshkosh and UW-Madison, Division of Extension.
Two of the preliminary findings in the study were
Black entrepreneurs in the region expressed feelings of isolation and lack of social connection among their peers
Many did not approach formal financial institutions to inquire about resources for their businesses, in fear of rejection and intimidation.
Our Coworking Space is unique in that it is providing a safe and creative space for entrepreneurs of color to work individually or collaboratively, and to share and benefit from various business resources. Fit, is the perfect host for this program as it already has established the trust and connections needed to make the space successful.
