"For me, the Color Brave Reads are just plain gifts. Through them, I have been introduced to the perspectives and experiences of people of color that I might otherwise not have heard. I have learned about racism in ways that have encouraged and taught me how to face and unlearn my own racism for change in my life for the good. The book discussions are Grace-filled and instructive. I can't commend these opportunities strongly enough!" ~Pastor Jan LaVake, Our Saviors Lutheran Church, Oshkosh
Fit Oshkosh hosts free Color-Brave Reads and Conversations to engage the community in race equity education.
Our Color-Brave Community reads are just one way that we are able to discuss race and difference and all its complexities in a respectful forum with the goal of identifying actionable steps that can be taken.
Each read features a book that the entire community is asked to read at the same time.
Each month, readers get together to take a deeper dive into the books’ content to further learning and opportunity. Trained facilitators are on hand to guide the conversation. Complimentary light refreshments are served.
Fit has been hosting Color-Brave Community reads since 2014.
